What does alcohol really do to your skin?

by Erika Geraerts

You know when you wake up after a big night and your mouth feels like a cat slept inside it and lapped up all the water from your system? That's because you're dehydrated - and your skin is too.
Sallowness, puffiness, enlarged pores, and maybe a broken blood vessel or two? That’s a little gift from your last round of drinks.
And, if you already have some pre-existing skin conditions like eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, or acne, it’s likely to be further inflamed by alcohol.
No one expects you to give up alcohol completely. Clearer varieties like vodka or gin might help. But we're not an alcohol company. We're a beauty company, so we're here to tell you how to look after your skin, and restore those moisture levels.
Firstly, drink 2-2.5 litres of water, which will help the liver to flush out alcohol and replace water that is lost. Coconut water can also be helpful as it contains potassium, electrolytes, and B vitamins, and a milk thistle supplement can also help support the liver. And focus on eating dark, leafy vegetables containing B vitamins.
Ok, now let’s talk about Skincare. Caring for your skin, specifically.
Daily cleansing is useful to remove dirt, oil, and impurities that can build up during the day, regardless of whether you've worn a full face of makeup or not. Avoid using Cleansers with drying or stripping ingredients like charcoal or clay - these will only further dry out and dehydrate your skin. Instead, use a nourishing oil or milk formula - like Fluff: Cleanser. It contains nourishing ingredients like Jojoba Oil, Ashwagandha Root, and Hemp Seed Oil.

Follow it up with a face roller (if you have one) that's been in the fridge and while it’s cooling put on Face Oil #1 or #2. Roll it over all those puffy, tired bits. With a structure similar to your own sebum, both natural oils will facilitate moisture-balancing and maintenance.

Our Best Selling Face Oils treat dehydrated skin and blemishes. They are Natural. Vegan. Cruelty Free. Each of our Face Oils has been developed in response to an overwhelming desire from customers to minimize their skincare routine and stabilize their skin. We think that the beauty industry tends to overcomplicate information and products in an effort to sell customers more - when really we believe all we need to do is slow down and take some time to understand, not overwhelm our skin.

We believe in single, pure oils as the quickest way to return to and stabilize our skin's natural living patterns. Usually, there is an adjustment period
(2-4 weeks) for our skin to recalibrate and get used to any new products, especially if it's simplifying our routine.

Face Oil #1 for adaptive, combination skin that needs rebalancing and glow. It is 100% Certified Organic Jojoba Oil. Its molecular structure is the closest to our skin's naturally occurring state - which means it is suitable for most skin types and that application can result in restored moisture levels. Our founder, Erika uses this product every day - it's super lightweight and easy to wear under makeup or on its own/with moisturizer.

Face Oil #2 for dehydrated and dry skin lacking in moisture and needing a boost. It is 100% Meadowfoam Seed Oil, derived from the Meadowfoam Seed Flower. It's a thicker oil than Face Oil #1 and #3 and is more suited to dehydrated skin or as an intense, nighttime oil. It is one of the most stable oils available, in that its expiry date is longer than most - it can also be mixed with other oils to prolong their shelf life.

Face Oil #3 was developed for more mature skin types, and those looking for a natural retinol alternative e.g pregnant women or women looking to target lines and pigmentation. The hero ingredient here is Bakuchiol. It is light upon application with a natural, earthy smell (whereas Face Oil #1 and #2 are unscented). Face Oil #3 does contain Frankincense Essential Oil at a very small % which may cause irritation to sensitive skin. As always, pregnant women should check with their doctor before trying any new products.

We also have a Sample Set (10mls each of our Oils) if you are looking to try and see which works best.

Our Cleanser and Face Mask are also our most recent, best-selling products for their gentle and natural formulations. We wear the Face Mask at night as a sleep-in, intense treatment.
